The God Delusion

The God Delusion (2006) is Richard Dawkins’ landmark critique of religious belief, written from his perspective as an evolutionary biologist. Dawkins argues that the existence of God is a scientific question that can be examined with the same rigor applied to any other hypothesis, and concludes that the probability of a divine creator is vanishingly small. He traces religion’s origins to evolutionary byproducts and cultural transmission, challenges the idea that morality requires religious grounding, and argues that a scientific understanding of the universe offers its own form of wonder, one that doesn’t require supernatural explanation. The book became a global bestseller and, alongside Hitchens’ God Is Not Great, helped define the New Atheism movement of the mid-2000s.
