پایان ایمان by Sam Harris (2004) is a critique of organized religion, arguing that religious faith, especially when it involves unquestioning belief and resistance to evidence, poses a serious danger in the modern world, particularly when combined with weapons of mass destruction and geopolitical conflict. Harris argues that moderate religious belief, by shielding faith from criticism, inadvertently provides cover for extremism. He also touches on ethics, rationality, and even meditation/consciousness, arguing that morality and spirituality don’t require religious doctrine. The book won the PEN/Martha Albrand Award for First Nonfiction and helped launch Harris as one of the prominent voices of the “New Atheism” movement, alongside Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Daniel Dennett.
